Dear Wonderful Opequon Caregivers, Families, and Friends,
We’re halfway through 3rd session, and what a sweet session it is!
On Thursday we welcomed the campers back from their fun, rainy, joyful overnight trips: Units 3 and 4’s bonding trip took them to the beautiful Crescent Rocks overlook; then they enjoyed a stay in the big treehouse at the Rolling Ridge Foundation. Unit 2 hiked a total of 20 miles over their 3-day trip, all the way from the Annapolis Rocks overlook to the Maryland-Pennsylvania border. Unit 1 visited Fox Haven Farm and Learning Center, where they put in a full day of service in the barn and gardens.
Back at camp, we’re in our second day of Workshops – Ice Cream Making, Garden Building, Board-Game Creating and Puppeteering fill the mornings. Afternoons have included dancing in the rain, cozily playing cards, tie dye, ultimate frisbee, drawing, collaging, and lots of Ga-Ga-Ga.
We also got a special surprise this week – Catoctin’s Unit 1B came to visit! We spent a sweet evening together putting on Paper Bag Skits and teaching each other camp songs, and then the Catoctin campers joined in on some weeding in the garden workshop.
This morning we joined Hopewell Friends Meeting for worship in their historic, 1734 meetinghouse. Several campers and staff shared messages out of the silence, and we ended our time together with a big camp sing-along. For those of you with 4-week campers, we also enjoyed a lovely Community Dinner at the end of last session with neighbors and local Friends.
We’re looking forward to the last day of Workshops tomorrow morning, our Art Walk in the afternoon, in which they share what they’ve learned and created with the rest of camp. Then on Tuesday, our ODWAD, a special themed, all-camp day, different groups of campers will canoe on the Potomac River, make collaborative sculpture projects, and create a performance for all of camp to watch. Wednesday, we start our next set of workshops; the fun continues!
Love and Light,
