Shiloh Quaker Camp Session 1 2019 Report

By July 9, 2019 General, SQC

Hello Camp Family!

We are sending you greetings from a very relaxing yet engaging “brunch day.” Trying to sum up what we do here in a single session is pretty difficult, so we are just going to give you a window by describing the events of the last 24 hours.

Friday

4:30pm

All campers return from their unit trips. Campers and counselors work together to clean and return their backpacking gear, get some snacks and mail, jump in the pond and/or shower, hopefully write letters…

6pm

We eat a delicious and rowdy dinner of barbeque local organic chicken, vegetarian sloppy joes, corn on the cob, coleslaw and potato salad! We come together to clean up camp.

7:30pm

We gather around the fire to sing and sing and share stories and gratitude from out trips! Unit 5 went on a hiking trip in Shenandoah National Park, Unit 4 went rock-climbing, Unit 3 canoed for 2 days and then went to Bellair Farm for a service project, Unit 2 hiked out of camp all the way to White Oak Canyon, and Unit 1 did a variety of service projects at Charlottesville Friends Meeting! Campers came back happy and unified from their trips, despite (or perhaps because of?) the rain they encountered.

Saturday

 8am

Shiloh’s early risers gather in the “thunderdome” to play some quiet games and enjoy a rare bowl or two of cereal.
10am

Camp comes together to feast on a delicious burrito brunch, after some much needed rest.

11:15am

Meeting for worship in the fire circle. Full of afterthoughts and songs and then an all group game.

12:30am

Afternoon Activities! Featuring: making ‘zines, balancing (slack-line, unicycle, etc.), dressing up the shadow people, finding bodies of water, and “speed friending.”

2pm

Rest Period and Cabin Cleaning. Our standards include NO wet clothes wadded up in the bottom of backpacks.

3:15pm

Today is a rare day in which the period of time known as chocolate cake actually involves chocolate cake! Ask your camper for details.

3:45pm

General Swim! Jump in the pond or hang out in the shade around it.

Phew…. And that is just 23 hours! Some things we are looking forward to are in no particular order: JUGS! Special Day! Project week trips! Ask your campers to fill you in on pick up day. Thank you for supporting camp and sending us your lovely humans to hang out with. We appreciate it! Also, if you know of any other lovely humans that might enjoy a place like camp, we still have some space in 3rd session (July 28-Aug 11) and we love meeting new campers!

XOXO
