Hello Shiloh Community! I am writing to you from a rare quiet moment around camp. (I admit, I had to wake up early to accomplish this.) We have had a fantastic week, and many of us are looking forward to one more.
Highlights from this past week include jumping back and forth from the pond to the creek, playing rowdy and mellow games, baking pretzels, singing around the fire, Shakespeare theater, and spontaneous and planned waltzing.
On Tuesday we had the privilege of hosting the Traveling Players, a troupe of young actors from the Washington D.C. area. The group performed an afternoon matinee of Shakespeare’sTwelfth Night, which was one of a kind. The language is a bit challenging, and the actors did a great job adding some physical humor to help move the plot along for the campers.
On Wednesday, campers and counselors left for their 3 day backpacking trips. There was a canoeing trip that also picked up trash and debris from the river, a rock climbing and hiking trip that took time to write and paint, and a service learning trip to Living Energy Farm. When everyone returned, we shared stories and appreciations around the fire.
Last night, after another full day of camp fun, we had a moment to reflect on our time together. It was wonderful to hear so many new and returning campers share highlights as well as challenges they were proud of overcoming. This morning we will say goodbye to some of our younger community members and then get ready to welcome more campers this afternoon. It has been wonderful to hear so many campers and staff already making plans for next year….
