Greetings Shiloh Families!
This is your director speaking, live from unit time! Currently there are upper and lower cabin groups gathered together playing games, making art, and being goofy all over camp. Soon the bell will be ringing for morning general swim.
Today is a big day–we learned at breakfast who we would be making “simple gifts” for, to be presented tonight at evening activity. Everyone at camp will both give and receive something small and meaningful to someone else. It’s a secret, but I have seen campers and counselors reaching out to each other for ideas and inspiration.
Another big reveal happened after meeting for worship. Counselors and staff presented the options for “project week” trips. On these two night excursions, all the ages and cabins will be mixed up and the campers will be going on a trip that’s in their top 3 list of preferences. The options are Get Dirty/Get Clean/SPA/Waterfall, Shenandoah River and Art Expedition (Canoeing), Rock Climbing and Comedy Writing, Understanding Your Environment (hiking and nature journaling) and Main Street to the Mighty Massanutten, a hiking trip that will start in downtown Luray and end on a mountain summit! You can ask your camper which one they went on when you pick them up.
Another thing you can ask your camper about is “Special Day” which will be happening soon. I cannot reveal more at the moment.
OK, now that I have given you something I will ask something of you. PLEASE IGNORE your campers’ pleas for candy in their care packages. We are feeding them a delicious, healthy variety of foods at camp that even includes some nice desserts and treats on occasion. We cannot store candy and junk food for them, so they are eaten all at once in a chaotic, often disturbing manner. If you would like to send treats, please consider magazines, games, temporary tattoos etc.
With Much Love,
